March 2015 Ipsy Unboxing
Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service. There is typically four sample sized products and one full sized product in each Ipsy bag. This was my very first subscription “box”. It is $10 a month. behindtheboxblog.com paid for this subscription.
In this blog I will be showcasing the items inside the March 2015 Ipsy bag and giving you information on the products. Then, stay tuned, in a couple weeks after sampling the products, you can look for reviews.
This is the cute, shiny, pink mailer your Ipsy bag will come in monthly.
Each month you get a small makeup bag that’s wrapped around a theme. This month the theme is Flower Power. I love this month’s pattern and colors. I have Ipsy bags in my makeup room, closest (for storage of samples), purse, at work and overnight bag. They are great!
The first item in the bag is Dr. Brandt Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion. I’m excited to try this product as it has been well-received. However, I was disappointed to discover that the travel size container was only about half full. I’m not sure if that was the case with everyone’s sample of this product, but it may be something I write to Ipsy about. I valued this product at $8.
FULL SIZE, FULL SIZE, FULL SIZE! OK, so second up is NYX Butter Lipstick. This product was made in Taiwan. The color I received is Little Susie. While I have several lipsticks, I do not have this color and I love it! I have not been a huge fan of the NYX brand, but I have heard great things about their butter lipstick and I look forward to trying it out and giving you a review on it. I’m valuing this at $6.
Third in my bag is the Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter. I have no idea what this is and since Ipsy does not put description cards in their bags, I did a little digging to find out more about this product. So, it’s apparently supposed to conceal, brighten, contour and define. The product states when used on the brow line it will give you an instant eye lift. It can also be used on the water line or inner corner of your eyes to add a brightening effect. There are claims that this product can help conceal blemishes, acne scars and dark spots. I’m super pumped to try this out. It sounds like it’s a “Jack of All Trades” sort of product. Look for a youtube video showcasing how it works soon. I valued this product at $18.
Next is Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Crème Oil. I don’t get super excited when I see hair products in subscription boxes, but I must say once I started sampling some of them, instead of throwing them off in a corner somewhere, I really started to like them. There are so many different products out there and I’ve noticed some of them really can make a difference in your hair. As I mentioned in my youtube video, on this unboxing, I’m not familiar with this product, heard a lot about the brand though. This is a blow out crème. You put a small amount in damp hair and blow dry your hair. So, what’s it supposed to do? According to a description I found on ulta.com, it’s supposed to add shine, control frizz, boost moisture and protect against environmental damage. People reviewing the product, for the most part, say it really works. One woman commented on how frizzy her hair has always been and this product smoothed it out. I too have frizzy, thick hair and I can’t wait to test this out to let you guys know what I think. This is a sample size in the box and valued at $6.
Finally, I got a sample of Marsk mineral eyeshadow in my bag. I love mineral shadows and this one is a very pretty, shiny, copper color called Lucky Penny. I had a hard time finding information on this brand. Is anyone familiar with the Marsk label? Let me know in the comments below. I’m valuing this product at $10.
CONCLUSION — 2.5 STARS OUT OF FIVE
This was definitely not my favorite Ipsy bag. I was disappointed in the half empty Dr. Brandt’s lotion, and I’m not a big fan of the NYX line. I do like mineral shadow, but don’t know much about the Marsk line. I am excited to try the Chella highlighter though as I do like experimenting with those types of products. The value of this bag is $48 give or take. I’m happy with the value, just not the selection of products this month.
